There were a lot of things I already know from prior classes, but in this class I got the chance to really perfect the skills required to write a college paper. The skill I developed the most was framing my paper along with the sources to perfection. You really had to constantly work on getting 9 sources that not only worked for your thesis, but also together. I had to go through a lot of sources because even though they somewhat related to my thesis, they did not make sense when thrown into my entire paper. I really learned to manage my thoughts and direction in terms of sources.
2. I would tell them to listen. That's the most important thing anyone in this class(taught by Professor Dragan) should know. Dragan says and explains everything clearly and effectively but the problem is that you have to listen. If you follow what he says and do the work on time, you can easily get an A in this class. It is a challenging class because it is tedious and full of little steps. The actual work in each step however, is very easy. Follow with your ears and with the deadlines and you'll cruise through to the end. I wish I could have told myself this at the beginning of the class.
3. I definitely would have given myself more time for the actual paper and first draft. I did not exactly keep up with the research milestones so it was hard for me to bring it all together at the end. You really need to climb the stairs to reach the end of the class. Seriously, take each thing step by step and do not be afraid to take a step back. There were times that I should have stepped back a few stairs, reexamine my direction and then continue from there.

6/2 Freewrite
1. My topic was Artificial Intelligence and how it effects society in key ways. My main focus was on the negative aspects such as AI's influence on the job market, robots inability to act beyond rules and limits, and the possibility of a robot revolution. I wrote strongly against the use of AI and used academic sources to defend my paper.
2. I discovered a lot of information on the possible effect that AI can have on the job market and the workers themselves. I always thought that the introduction of robot workers could harm our economy in some way, but I was greatly surprised on how exactly much. It definitely enhanced my opinion on not using AI in the future. Before, I was slightly on the "against AI" side, but now I very far into that side. I now know the ways that our future can hurt from this amazing technology. It simply isnt worth it.
3. EbscoHost has been the best database for me and usually is. It is very simple to use and it is also very reliable for finding the right sources with full pdf. It was the database I used it to find the academic article on unemployment that was caused by technology.

Changes for Final Draft
I need to make some updates to my first draft. It was rather decent, but there is definite room for improvement. During the next two weeks, I need to work on my word count and perfecting citations and my use of them. Specifically, I need to add a couple more hundred words that would put me over the six page mark. I am currently only a little over 5 pages. Since I need to incorporate a book into my paper, I can easily add a book, and the supporting information that comes with it, to reach the goal of 1500 words. The book will also complete my list of sources to a perfect nine for nine. Once that is done, I must make sure I add all in-text citations and clean up my works cited page. If all that is done, I can expect a very good grade.

Hollywood Films
I believe that most films get the historical facts wrong. They do not want to sell us facts, but fantastical and exaggerated events based off some sort of truthful event. As a Greek who really knows what happened in Sparta, the movie "300" makes me laugh at how inaccurate it is. Of course it only makes it more marketable but the sad part is the fact there are some people out there who actually believe it. Considering the power of documentaries, Hollywood films lack truthful and educational information. That being said, I do not want to completely bash Hollywood as they do teach us some important things, but overall they skew the events so we can be more interested. Sharing Topics and Two Sources
My research paper will tackle the problem of technology and its effect on unemployment/ the loss of human jobs. Not only will it look at current and future problems that are happening, but where it all begun. We are already in 2014 and this has been a known concern, so looking at the origins of this problem would be a great help in finding the outcome.
1. Found in academic source complete. Technological Growth and Unemployment : A Global Scenario Analysis is a business article written in the Journal of Evolution and Technology. Riccardo Campa wrote this article with the idea of artificial intelligence affecting unemployment in mind. This is a perfect piece of evidence for my research paper it is heavily concerned with the future of this technology and the social consequences that may arise. This really helps look at possible problems and even solutions that we can take into consideration before the problem gets bigger. "Both the Luddites and Marx have noticed that machinery did not free humans from labour, but rather caused unemployment and the inhumane exploitation of those still employed." The latter reason in this statement is extremely useful to my paper as it shows another negative spin of technology in the job world. There are two facets to this and the exploitation of those still working is usually ignored. This will provide a great amount of information for me.

2. My second source is the movie "I, Robot" written by Jeff Vintar and Akiva Goldsman. I have watched this movie in theaters and always thought it was interesting. Fortunately, it is a prime example for my research topic. The movie takes place in 2020 and is a futuristic world where robots are in the plentiful and are vital to every day life. They have been created as a servants for humans and are designed specifically to help us without any possible problem. The protagonist (Will Smith) plays a cop who actually hates the robots due to a robot being used to replace his father in the carpentry business. Later on the robots are controlled the mainframe system and they lead a revolution against the humans, killing many. This movie portrays not only the extent of artificial intelligence we may reach, but the individualistic and global problems that come with it. The one character we really learn about has a built up hate because his father's talents became obsolete, and the entire world becomes endangered due to the advancement of the robots. The actual and metaphorical negative problems that are coming with this technology is very evident in this movie and shows a unique balance between small and large scale. When is something "good" going too far?

Welcome
My first blog!
Hello, everyone. My name is Stamatios Manes but most people call me "Sta" for short. I am a 22 year-old male going on 23 in July. My major is currently psychology and I have a huge interest in it but I am not sure if I love it enough to pursue it after Laguardia. I am still doing some soul searching in terms of my future career plans, but I know for sure that I want to graduate from Laguardia and make my way to a four year university.
I am more sure of what my hobbies and outside interests are. I love to watch, read and play sports like its my religion and that is my truest love. Nothing beats going out for a good run, but I still have my favorite movies and books. I love all types of adventure films and books, as well comedies and sci-fi. My favorite movies is hard to pin down but the Star Wars franchise wins my heart. When it comes to my favorite book, "Watership Down" is the only book I have read more than twice and I am already planning on reading it again.
I am definitely in between on the whole technology for/against discussion. There are pros and cons for both sides. Technology has made the world a more efficient place where it has helped communicate in ways that seemed impossible before. It also has helped us learn things about us and our universe all while providing us with a better health care. There is no doubt that technology is good for us, but what about the cons? The cons are extremely obvious. Just look outside and you will need a few hands to count off the people staring into their phones like zombies. Technology has ruined social interaction, physical stimulation, and has slowly made our worlds a little "fake". People now a days spend more time in the world that is called "internet" than on planet Earth. When it comes down to it, we only have our fellow man but technology teaches us that we don't really need them.
